This case study is being carried out in conjunction with Lödöse Museum and will be used in the museum's display about the Göta Älv valley, which is now open. Utilising existing GIS and remotely sensed data from various local, regional, and government agencies, the Göta Älv Valley case study seeks to reconstruct the valley landscape throughout prehistory, and to present that information in a GIS-based interactive model to be displayed on the project website as well as at Lödöse Museum.

The Göta Älv river and surrounding valley area have played a pivotal role in the cultural development of the region, therefore a model such as this will help to present a visual understanding of the importance of the area through time, and how societies have shaped and been shaped by their surroundings. The overall goal of this case study is to assess the viability of using extant GIS data in regional landscape reconstruction and, based on that, to recommend useful methods for collection and storage of data of this type.

The first version of this model, a looping animation of the sea level change and land uplift from 12500 BP to today, is now on display at Lödöse Museum as a part of the Bilder Av Våra Förfäder exhibit. A low resolution version of the animation as well as images of the informational posters describing the exhibit can be found on the following pages. Future plans for the model include adding reconstructions of the cultural and natural landscape through time, as well as building interactive 3-D models of sections of the valley for museum and website visitors to interact with. More information is on the way. In the meantime, details of the progress regarding the physical model can be found here.

Initial results of data collection for a 3D model of the Fröjel 12:1 picture stone. Data collection and 3D reconstruction by Chris Sevara and Elisabeth Nickalsson.
In the Summer of 2007 members of the Digital time Travels project participated in doctoral candidate Alexander Andreff's research excavation at Fröjel 12:1, a picture stone in Fröjel parish, Gotland. Work related to this case study is currently on hold pending completion of the Göta River valley installation at Lödöse museum.
Below are listed the Digital Time Travel project's current case studies. Currently, we are focusing on Case Study I, in conjunction with Lödöse Museum. An exhibition based on Case Study I will open at Lödöse Museum in May of 2009.
