This website has its background in the Digital Time-Travel project (2007 - 2010), which was an interdisciplinary project devoted to the development of new methods for the presentation and publication of archaeological data, particularly the use and effectiveness of digital methods for the presentation of archaeological information to the public. Work involved cooperation with museums and other institutions as well as the general public to develop useful and meaningful models of past landscapes and site-contexts. Particularly, work focused on the design of models visualizing landscape development and the construction of an interactive interface for mediation and communication of archaeological information through computer-terminals installed as part of museum displays, and through the Internet.

An off-spin of
the Digital Time-Travels project will form one of the work packages of
Archaeological Information in the Digital Society, financed through a
framework
grant by the Swedish Research Council 2013 – 2016. The work package
will be launched
in January 2014. Drawing upon the results of the previous research and
development project this work package aims at deepening and broadening
our
understanding of how presentation techniques such as computer aided
visualization,
and digitally based mediation methods can be used in the cultural
heritage
field. The work will also discuss how these technologies changes the
pre-conditions
for mediation and information about prehistory and cultural heritage.
The work
package is managed as an action research study that combines
development of
interactive pedagogical methods, development and adaptation of
appropriate presentation
technologies and their contextual evaluation.
